Location:
RFSB is located at the Richmond Field Station of UC Berkeley, a few miles north of the campus.

This station serves both as a borehole site in the Hayward fault network and as a surface installation of an accelerometer in the Berkeley Digital Seismic Network.

Geology:
Shale

Vault/Borehole conditions:
The HFN seismometer package is deployed at a depth of 91 meters in the borehole. The accelerometer is installed in a barrel at the surface.

Operation Notes: (may not be current)
This section summarizes major changes in equipment or in instrumentation at RFSB.

  • 11/11/1999: Q4120 upgraded with 4 Gb disk.
  • 11/04/1999: Q4120 software upgraded to MSHEAR.
  • 04/01/1997: Q4120 software upgraded to USHEAR.
  • 08/15/1996: Q4120 replaced.
  • 08/06/1996: Vanguard V100 FRAD replaced with V320 FRAD with ethernet.
  • 02/02/1996: Data archival begun.
  • 01/29/1996: Wilcoxon accelerometers, Quanterra Q4120 datalogger, and vertical geophone connected.

Noise Characteristics:
No noise information for RFSB is available at this time.

Data Availability:
BDSN waveforms and associated metadata are available at the Northern California Earthquake Data Center (NCEDC).

Several tools provide access to SEED format data at the NCEDC, both in terms of querying the archives and allowing data requests.

Help on using these tools is available.
